A Post Medieval-Modern fragment of a lead alloy printing press plate, c.AD 1800-1930. This appears to be a portion of a fixed-print plate, most likely for an advert in the local paper, since these would not need to be reworded unless there was a significant change in address or ownership. The words on the plate are reversed, making it clear this was meant to be inked. The plate is missing significant portions and has suffered damage to the words, making the original message difficult to discern. An incomplete lead printing block of Modern date. It is missing one corner due to old breaks but is otherwise complete. The block is rectangular in form and section with bevelled edges and corners. One face is flat and undecorated, the other carries the die. The die comprises a central motif formed from a shield with central circle containing an equal armed cross, the shield has drapery and possibly a crown, coronet or similar, above which is a second circle with equal armed cross. Late medieval - modern cast lead alloy number 4 from movable type press. The numeral has a rectangular base with a semi circular cut out at one side for fixing. Movable type has remained very similar since it was introduced to Britain in 1450AD. This piece is 23.6mm long, 11.8mm wide, 5.9mm thick and 12.98 grams in weight.
