A rim sherd from an early Roman platter (c. 1st century AD). It is of a crude triangular form with breaks that are fairly abraded. It is very shallowly curved in profile. The rim is thickened (10mm) compared to the extant body (5.5mm). There is an external depressed band below the rim. Internally there is a thick ridge below the rim, below which two thin ridges. The platter is in imitation of Gallo-Belgic forms (Helen Rees pers. comm. 24 May 2012). The fabric is fairly fine and sandy. It has dark-grey outer surfaces with a lighter core.

Pottery Sherd of Staffordshire Slipware, probably from close to the edge of a plate or platter. Off-white fabric bears creamy yellow base glaze with dark brown decoration, on one side only - reverse is unglazed. The sherd bears a motif of vertical lines –or possibly lettering – between two zones of marbling. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1700-1750. Finder’s reference: This sherd was found 46 years ago (i.e. 1964) in a field outside the village, around the time of the finder’s marriage, and was retained as a keepsake.

A base shard from a platter or dish in reduced grey ware with a speckled buff colouring on the outer surface probably from an oxidation reaction during firing, there are numerous white calcareous inclusions showing both in the section and on the outer face, most of which are small, but with a few random large ones. There are no obvious inclusions present on the inner face but there are numerous small-medium sized voids. The vessel appears to have been hand made, and possibly finished on a 'slow' wheel.
