Fine grained Magnesian Limestone (non-specialist identification). Architectural moulding. Fragment from the inner edge of an arched window or door. Simple decoration comprises a pair of parallel hollows. A curved and worn surface appears as a splay, with a curvature following that of the outer edge. The use of bright freestone from the Magnesian limestone belt was common from the 13th century onwards, and by the 17th century stone of 'Tad[caster] or Don[caster]' travelled down river for major projects in Hull.
