A complete cast copper alloy forked object, possibly a heretic's fork (suggested by the finder) and dating to the medieval period. The fork is double ended and symmetrical. It has two prongs or tines at either end, below which are lozenge-shaped mouldings with bevelled edges, as a form of decoration. In the centre of the fork are two joined and opposing crescents, the central pillar created by this moulding is worn which may indicate that it had a strap secured around it, possibly with an open looped strap fitting securing the strap in place. If this is a heretic's fork, the opposing …

An incomplete copper alloy Tool of Post-Medieval to Modern date (AD 1750-1900). The object is composed of a single thin sheet of copper alloy which has been bent to form a split circular socket. The socket retains a projecting circular pin at 90 degrees through the left hand side which would have been used to haft the tool. The upper portion of the tool forms two prongs with stepped inner portion, one of the prongs is missing due to an old and abraded break. The metal is a light green in colour with a slightly pitted patina. The object is likely a "Mole Fork", a tool used f…

An incomplete iron object, probably a two-prong table fork. The object has a handle of oval section which flares to a fluted end. A small shaft of rectangular section extends from the centre of this end. The other end of the handle tapers and flattens to what appears to have been a circular loop. The item may have been used as a leatherworking tool, and is possibly post-medieval in date. The item is 94mm in length and has a maximum diameter at the fluted end of 9mm. The handle tapers to 5mm x 6mm. The rectangular shaft measure 5mm x 4mm.

Copper alloy possible fork fragment. Cast fragment of an implement with three rounded section tines, two broken close to their branching and the middle tine curved upwards at its end. The table fork was a post-medieval introduction, and a three tined form was only common in the earlier 18th century, thereafter being displaced by the four-tined variety. However, he size and crude construction of this object do not suggest use at table, and rather resembles a flesh hook of an earlier period, an implement usually made of iron. This may rather be from early farm machinery, though its func…

A complete Post Medieval lead alloy forked tool (16th-17th centuries). The fork has been cast in one piece as a rod which, at the top, has been hammered out and pierced to create a hoop. At the opposite end it appears to have been cut and hammered out, forming a forked extension with two points. The fork has an elliptical profile. Geoff Egan has seen nothing to parallel the object, but suggests it might be a fishing lure. The tips are hammered flat to expand them which would help grip. Dimensions: Length: 69.93mm; width: 23.62mm; thickness: 4.48mm; weight: 8.5g.
