A complete copper alloy composite object, a Ferrule, of Modern date (AD 1860-1885). The object is composed of a thin folded sheet of copper alloy, with a visible longitudinal seam, one end of the object is folded/hammered around a Farthing of Victoria, reading VICTORIA.D.G/BRIT.REG.FI forming an end cap or terminal. The other end of the object has been compressed, possibly due to post depositional processes, but would likely have been open, giving the object a cylindrical form. There are two sub-circular perforations at opposing sides of the open end of the object. this suggests the ob…

A post medieval to modern silver ferrule, probably dating to the 19th century AD. The object consists of groups of six strands of silver wire interwoven to create a rectangular ferrule. The shorter edges are hollow, and the inside core is probably copper alloy. From one of the shorter edges projects a sharp copper alloy point, this would have attached the ferrule originally. The ferrule is a grey silver colour, it has been previously damaged and slightly distorted out of shape.  Similar ferrules on the database are DENO-F7EC2C and KENT-A512A4

Copper alloy possible ferrule. Cast cylinder with either a break or a butted seam, and with faint traces of finely-spaced longitudinal fluting, the latter concealed below later accretions of corrosion, or possibly heat damage. Two holes of diameter 3.9mm may be drilled into the upper wall of the conical part, , and there are two larger irregular holes perhaps representing casting flaws.
