Object type: COIN
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Nottinghamshire

Medieval Coin: Worn fragment of a struck or hammered silver penny probably of Henry III (1216-1272), possibly of Richard I (1189-1199) or John (1199-1216); short cross coinage (1180-1247).
Only a fragment of the coin survives but it is evident that the moneyer was NICOLE or NICHOLE. Therefore the coin is one of the following mints and classes: London (7c-8); Canterbury (7c, 8b2-8b3); Kings Lynn (5b) or York (4-5). Unfortunately there is not enough information surviving to be more specific in the classification.
