Description and identification The reported object is a cast gold finger ring with stone setting. It has an octagonal hollow bezel tapering upwards to form an oval aperture for the stone. Inside the bezel are the remains of a dark red cabochon stone, now sunken.  The band is flat, plain and slightly D-shaped in cross section. There is a small panel on each shoulder, decorated with a series of horizontal chased grooves. The band is misshapen, and the back of the bezel is plain and flat. It bears an interior maker's mark, 'WH', which has been identified with Will Hunter or Will Hitchin, a London goldsmith working at the beginning of the 19th century.
