Crude Medieval lead alloy pot mend. Two sub oval offset discs one very slightly concave on its outside surface, the other with a raised boss; both encapsulate a sherd of ceramic pot within. The ceramic fragment is Medieval with a dark grey reduced colour to the body, and a shell temper. There are also strands of a light brown sturdy fibre of consistent thickness penetrating between the lead mend and the ceramic. There is no sign of weave to this and it may simply be intrusive roots; however, the find has been cleaned and out of the ground for many months without the strands decaying, …

Likewise, Margeson (1993: 39, nos. 257-258) publishes a pair of similar strap fittings both found in contexts dating to c.1600-1650, and suggests that they were mounted to sword belts. This example is altogether smaller a…

Fragment of a medieval copper-alloy annular brooch. The frame was possibly hexagonal (at least on the external edge) when complete, but only approximately one third of it survives, consisting of one full side, two corners and two partial sides. The internal angles of these corners are approximately 125 and 135 degrees. While the external edges of the frame are straight, the internal edge is continuous and wavy, unbroken by corners. It is also bevelled on the reverse.
On the front, situated at the more obtuse corner is a sub-circular collet. It actually has two fairly flat sides …
