A cast copper alloy figurine - most probably from the top of a post medieval pipe tamp / tamper (AD 1600-1750). The figure is long, thin and cartoon like with exaggerated arms and legs. The figure is stood in a pose with one hand raising his hat in salute whilst the other hand is wrapped around a large and exaggerated erect penis. The figure has lost his legs one above the knee whilst the other below. The lower stopper part of the tamper is lost. It is possible that the figure may represent a harlequin as he is dressed in a doublet / jerkin with rounded neck whilst the legs are decorated with chevrons possibly suggesting leggings. Unfortunately the figurine has lost the tip of his preposterously large penis; this break is likely to have occured in antiquity as the break is rounded and worn. The figure has a light brown purple colour and a relatively well formed surface patina. A direct parallel has not been found - although the style is reminiscent of a number of 'bawdy' scenes associated with smoking
The tamper measures: Length 37mm, width 13mm, thickness 7mm. Weight 6.0 grams

A well preserved but incomplete cast copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill type of Roman date (AD 80-120). The wings are complete with flat and pierced end caps. The axis bar, spring and pin are all lost. The external cord of the brooch pin would have fixed to a rearward facing hook positioned at the midpoint on the upper edge of the reverse; this is an abraded stump like projection. The head of the brooch bow is hump like and robust - being comma shaped in profile. The bow is D shaped in cross section. It extends to a broken edge above the foot. The catch-plate is formed from a rib on the rear of the bow which starts below the head. The majority of the catch plate is also lost. The brooch is undecorated but a grey tinned applied surface is present in places. The brooch has a mid green colour with a relatively well preserved surface patina. Similar brooches can be seen in Richard Hattatt's Visual Guide to Ancient brooches and Bayley and Butcher: Roman Brooches in Britain.
The brooch measures 24mm length, is 17mm width across wings, and weighs 5.0 grams

A heavily clipped, silver sixpence of Charles I, 1625-1649. Obverse shows kings crowned bust facing left with VI behind head. Rear shows flat topped shield, area above shield too worn to see any date or symbol. The majority of the legends have been lost to clipping. The date range of this coin can be reduced to the period 1625-1629 due to the use of a square topped shield over long cross fourchee (rather than later oval or garnished shields). This suggests this coin was struck within Group A or B
