A cast copper-alloy end cap (terminal / pommel) from a scale-tang knife of later medieval or post-medieval date (AD 1400-1600) The terminal is incomplete and one side has been damaged - originally the cap would have been fleur-de-lis shaped with a central domed element which was flanked by two out-turned crescents - only one of which survives. A deep central longitudinal sub-rectangular (V shaped) slot that enabled a tang to be accommodated is present at one end of the knife.
