Flint notched blade of later Mesolithic date (4000 -3000 BC). The flake is broadly rectangular in plan and has a crested (triangular shaped) cross section. The striking platform and bulb of percussion are both present - although trimmed. Both the external long edges have been retouched and an irregular removal / deliberate notch is present on one edge- the area around this is retouched possibly suggesting the removal shape had a specific use. A small area of yellow cream coloured cortext is present near the striking platform on the dorsal face. The blade is a mid grey colour with the …

Flint blade like flake of later Mesolithic date (4000 -3000 BC). The flake is broadly rectangular in plan and has a crested (triangular shaped) cross section. The striking platform and bulb of percussion have been removed by trimming / snapping. There is no evidence of the edges being reworked - and it is this represents a piece of secondary debitage / blade removal during preparation of a new core. The blade is a mid mottled grey colour with a large piece of white cortex along one edge. It measures: 18.2mm in length, 11.1mm width, is 3.7mm thick and weighs 0.6 grams.

An unusual notched snapped blade formed of mid grey mottled flint of later Mesolithic date. The blade has been deliberately snapped and the base of the slender flake survives. One edge (left hand) has a burin removal which has created a slight step. The opposite edge has a deliberately formed U shaped notch, which is reworked on both faces with neat and well formed scaled and overlapping secondary flaking. This reworking is most apparent on the dorsal face, although on the ventral the tip is thinned by parallel flaking. One long edge has a small section of cortex suggesting this was f…

A snapped flint blade of later Mesolithic date (4000 -3000 BC). The blade is rectangular in plan and has a crested cross section. The striking platform and bulb of percussion are present on the ventral face. The lower edge is deliberately broken / snapped and the surface is patinated. The long edges have not been reworked although movement in the plough surface suggests abrupt retouch is present. The flint is relatively coarse and a mid grey colour with small areas of translucent milky grey white coloured patina. The blade measures 31mm in length, 18mm width, is 3mm thick and weigh…

A snapped flint blade of later Mesolithic date (4000 -3000 BC). The blade is rectangular in plan with a tapering point at the distal end' it has a shallow crested cross section. The striking platform and bulb of percussion are lost. The left habd long edge has been reworked with abrupt retouch. The tip of the blade could be deliberately shaped - although it is difficult to tell. The flint is relatively coarse and a mid grey colour. The blade measures 26mm in length, 13mm width, is 5.1mm thick and weighs 1.6 grams.

A complete Mesolithic blade with a little semi-abrupt retouch near the tip to form a possible awl point. The blade shape is irregular and tapers towards both ends. Its cross-section is a shallow triangle, with the apex being the prominent dorsal ridge. The ventral face has very faint percussive ripples, these indicate it was struck from the end which now forms the awl tip. There is no distinguishable bulb of percussion. To the left of the awl tip is a short section of semi-abrupt retouch from the ventral side to form a point. The dorsal face has a prominent, central ridge runnin…

Knapped flint blade of late Mesolithic date (6500 - 4000 BC). The lower part of the blade is deliberately snapped, whilst the upper has a considerable amount of cortex. The blade is broadly sub-rectangular in plan (having curved / convex and concave long edges) and oval in cross section. The presence of cortex suggests that the core is relatively new as this is usually removed in the first phases of working. The striking platform for the blade is lost suggesting that this is from the bottom section of a much longer blade. The upper / dorsal face exhibits several long facets / blade sh…

Knapped flint blade of probable later Mesolithic or earlier Neolithic date (4500 - 3500 BC). The flint is broadly sub-rectangular in plan and lentoid in cross section. It has been struck from a relatively small core which has been worked in several directions. The ventral (reverse) face has a distinct bulb of percussion and conchoidal fractures; a slight striking platform is present on the heel of the flake. The dorsal face show several flake scars, The most recent are vertical where other blades have been removed; however on the left hand side of the flake a series of at least six pa…
