Rim sherd of a glazed earthenware vessel - possibly a small bowl or dish - of medieval date (1200-1450). The fabric is a hard earthenware: it is mica rich, having well sorted sparse grit-like and grog inclusions. The fabric is an oxidised orange colour. A green coloured glaze has been applied to the interior of the bowl - it has decayed in places to a muddy brown colour.
The sherd measures 37.4mm width, 17.2mm high, 20.6mm thick at rim it weighs 10.86 grams. The diameter of the rim is 20cmm and approximately 5% of the rim survives.

A sherd of pottery from a Roman vessel. The sherd is from the rim of a Severn Valley Ware vessel. The fabric is coarse and orange-buff in colour with a grey core. The vessel wall turns outwards towards the rim which is simply rounded.
The vessel wall thins slightly from the rim down. At the rim it is 8.4mm thick and further down its 6.1mm.
The sherd is 24mm high, 18mm wide and weighs 5.1g.

An incomplete clay pipe dating between 1660 and 1700. This artefact consists of just the bowl and foot. The bowl is bulbous and about 22 degress from perpendicular to the foot. There is a simple band of vertical indentations below the bowl rim. There is no makers stamp on the foot.
The bowl opening varies from 10.1mm to 10.6mm in diameter. The pipe is 36.3mm high, with a maximum diameter in its middle of 20.7mm. It weighs 12.2g.

A sherd of Roman pottery. This fragment is from the handle of a Severn Valley Ware vessel, being rounded on both sides. The vessel was fired in reduced conditions, with only the outer surfaces turning orange, the inner surface is grey like the wide core. The fabric contians micra and has inclusions of black, grey, brown and red-brown grit.
The handle is 8.8mm thick.
The fragment weighs 14.5g and is 34mm high by 35mm wide.

A sherd of Medieval pottery. This sherd comes from the vessel body, probably of a jug. The wall thickness is 5.0mm. the course fabric is a yellow-orange colour, with a thin grey core. Inclusions of micra and small bits of grit, the grit colours being black, grey and brown.

A sherd of pottery from the rim of a Roman vessel. The vessel is Severn Valley Ware. The fabric is orange with a wide grey core, indicating it was fired under reduced conditions. The surface is pitted. There are inclusions of red-brown grit, black grit and grey grit, coal, pieces of quartz and a spread of micra.
The vessel wall flares outwards towards the rim which is simply rounded without a lip. The wall varies in thickness from 9.8mm to 10.4mm thick.
The fragment weighs 22.9g, and is 37mm wide by 36mm tall.

A sherd of pottery from the rim of a Post Medieval open bowl. This rim is rounded, protuding on the outside to form a beaded lip. The sherd extends for the full height, 26mm, of the bowl and includes a bit of the base. The sherd is less than 5% of the circumference making the bowl diameter hard to measure.
The fabric is hard and course being orange in colour. On the outer surface are patcehs of olive green glaze and larger areas of grey residue from the glaze. There are inclusions of black grit, red-brown grit, grey grit, and buff grit, quartz pieces and some micra.

Three pottery sherds from a Roman vessel. These sherds are Severn Valley Ware. The fabric is orange buff in colour with a grey core
Two of the sherds fit together and have a decorative rib that runs horizontal to the vesel. The semi circular rib is about 3mm high and 6mm wide. The vessel wall is 5.8mm thick.

A base sherd of medieval or post medieval pottery (1400-1600). The side wall is near vertical and the base flat, making the vessel a jar. The base diameter was 17cm, and the sherd represents 9% of its circumfernce. The fabric is course, being orange-buff in colour, with red-brown patches. There is wide spread micra, with occasional flecks of quartz and black grit. On the inner surface in the junction between wall and base is a continous patch of olive green glaze.
The wall thickness is 8.7mm.

A rim sherd of medieval pottery. The rim is flatted topped with a shallow, semi-circular lip on the outer surface (about 5mm in diameter). The vessel wall was near vertical suggesting a storage jar. The sherd represents about 5% of the rim, which had a diameter between 12cm and 16cm.
The fabric is course, being orange-red in colour, with red-brown patches and inclusions of micra, quartz and black grit. On the inner surface there is a blackened residue.
The wall thickness is 9.0mm immediately below the shallow rim.

A sherd of medieval pottery from the handle of a jug. The sherd has two groves of slashed decoration and patches of olive green glaze. The fabric is course, being orange-red in colour with dispersed inclusions of micra, black grit and temper.
The handle is heavily abraded, but in one place the original thicness can be measured as 11.3mm.

A sherd of medieval pottery from the rim of a vessel. The rim is simply formed by rounding the outside of the vessel wall. This sherd formed about 5% of the rim and the diameter was between 14cm and 18cm.
The fabric is course, being a dull orange in colour, with a thin grey core, suggesting a local source. There are many inclusions of micra, coal grit, black grit, quartz and temper. The vessel was possibly a cooking pot.
The vessel wall varies in thickness from 11.9mm to 12.2mm.
This fragment weighs 16.9g and is 36mm wide by 32mm tall.

A fragment of Roman pottery. This sherd is from the rim of a Samian Ware open bowl, possibly form 31, and possibly from Lezoux. There is a patch of red brown slip on both sides of the vessel, and the fabric is very fine. The vessel wall is 8.2mm thick. The lip is rounded and faces outwards at an angle of about 45 degrees from the line of the side wall. The sherd is 49.5mm wide by 57.4mm tall. It weighs 24.8g.

A fragment of Roman pottery from the rim of a large storage pot. The rim has a orange grey colouring, being reduced Severn Valley Ware. This fragment was 8% of the rim, and the pot's outer diameter was 36cm. The vessel wall is 16.9mm thick. The fabric contains bits of ground pot as temper, flecks of white disolved Ollite limestone and grey/black inclusions.

A fragment of pottery from the neck of a Medieval jug. The fragment comes from where the body meets the neck, possibly at the base of the spout. Wall thickness is difficult to judge from this thicker curved area of the jug, but the body wall is 10.2mm at the edge furthest from the neck and the spout wall is 10.1mm at its furthest point. This is Green Glazed Worcester Ware from the period 1250-1350. The sherd is a hard courseware, orange in colour with a grey core. Patches of olive green glaze remain on the outer face.
The fragment is 65mm long by 42mm wide.

A fragment of pottery from the rim of a Roman bowl. The fabric is Oxfordshire Black Burnished Ware, being dark grey in colour and burnished on both sides. The vessel had upright sides with only a slight outwards taper, and a rounded lip that is at a right angles to the outer edge, The fragment represents less 5% of the rim, with the diameter being between 12cm to 20cm.
The vessel wall thickens slightly towards the rim, where it is 7.7mm thick. The lip measures 12.4mm from its outer edge to the inner wall of the vessel.
The fragment is 24.1mm wide and 22.9mm tall.
