Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A clay pipe bowl of 1630-1640. The bowl is plain with a rouletted ring below the mouth of the bowl. The clay is blottered. It does not have a makers mark. The bowl has an oval bulge measuring 19.7mm by 18.2mm.
Forward lean and shape suggest this pipe was made in Wiltshire, in particular the Salisbury area. The pipe is made of very rough clay and not well finished and probably therefore not mass produced, more for local trade. It's small size and shape do suggest an early date: 1630-1640.
The internal diameter of the bowl opening is 10.0mm.
The pipe is 29.5mm tall.
