Knapped flint blade of late Mesolithic date (6500 - 4000 BC). The lower part of the blade is deliberately snapped, whilst the upper has a considerable amount of cortex. The blade is broadly sub-rectangular in plan (having curved / convex and concave long edges) and oval in cross section. The presence of cortex suggests that the core is relatively new as this is usually removed in the first phases of working. A complete Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic flake. The flake has an irregular, sub-leaf, shape. Its cross-section is triangular, with the apex being the prominent dorsal ridge. The ventral face has a bulb of percussion with faint concentric ripples. A complete Mesolithic blade with a little semi-abrupt retouch near the tip to form a possible awl point. The blade shape is irregular and tapers towards both ends. Its cross-section is a shallow triangle, with the apex being the prominent dorsal ridge. A complete later Mesolithic (5000 - 3500 BC) flint core. The core has been worked in several directions and was used to produce small blades. The core fragmnet has been deliberately removed by a transverse blow - possibly suggesting that the extant piece was removed to regenerate the core. The flint is a dark brown black colour and there is a large area of cortex - this suggests the flint is of a good quality and is not native to the area in which it was found. The discarding of such a large piece of flint is unusal and there is no evidence of further working / retouching of the piece…

The striking platform and bulb of percussion are lost. The left habd long edge has been reworked with abrupt retouch. The tip of the blade could be deliberately shaped - although it is difficult to tell. The flint is relatively coarse and a mid grey colour. The blade measures 26mm in length, 13mm width, is 5.1mm thick and weighs 1.6 grams.

An unusual notched snapped blade formed of mid grey mottled flint of later Mesolithic date. The blade has been deliberately snapped and the base of the slender flake survives. One edge (left hand) has a burin removal which has created a slight step. The opposite edge has a deliberately formed U shaped notch, which is reworked on both faces with neat and well formed scaled and overlapping secondary flaking. The bladelet is formed on a mottled grey coloured flint with a small area of cortext on the dorsal face. the striking platform and bulb of percusion is present on the reverse face. The bulb of percussion and striking platform have been removed by snapping although the ventral face has clear evidence of chonciodal fracturing. The proximal snapped edge has been reworked with steep sided retouch creating a projecting point. This point has been made more angular by a deliberate vertical removal that has removed a small rectangular flake giving the point a specific identifiable profile. Small fragment of tertiary debitage - most probably a core-rejuvination flake. The dorsal face has a series of very shallow parallel sided flake removal scars suggesting it has been knapped from the tip of a pyramidical later mesolithic core to rejuinate / refresh the working area and allow for flaking in a different direction. This form of waste is classically dated to the late Mesolithic period (4000-3000 BC). The flake has a mid grey colour. Length 12.3mm, Width 10.7mm, Thickness 3.8mm, Weight 0.3g.
