A complete, 17th century, copper alloy, token. This is a token of John Hill who had tokens struck for both Hereford and Ross.The token is red brown in colour and corroded. The obverse legend is IOHN HILL [OF ROSS], the design is lost but would have read 1/2 inside a beaded oval border between six stars The reverse legend is lost, [HIS HALFE PENET 66 the design is lost but would have been I H within a beaded oval. A complete, 17th century, copper alloy, token. The token is a half penny of John Hill Ross, and is dated 1666. The token is red brown in colour and corroded. The obeverse legend is [IOHN HILL] [OF] ROSS, the design is a beaded oval containing 1D/2 with three mullets / stars either side. The reverse legend is [HIS HALFE] PENEY 6[6], the design is abeaded oval, containing I:H with a mullet / star either side. Diameter 19.1mm, thickness 1.1mm, weight 1.65g. A complete copper alloy token of the late 17th century. The obverse legend starts with a rose at 11'oclock followed by HEREFORD . CITT[Y . ARM]ES. In the centre is a shield with the date above, 166? possibly 1662. The border of the shield has 7 saltires, the inner device is worn. The arms of Hereford is traditionally Three lions passant guardant argent with the augmentation of azure 10 saltires or Scottish crosses (diagonal) granted by Charles I for loyalty in a charter of 1645.
