A silver short cross penny of King John (1199-1216AD) dating from the period 1205-1210AD. The moneyer is Simon at the mint of Rhuddlan. Group II, Class iii (similar to English Class 5). Obverse has the crowned bust facing, holding a sceptre and the legend hENRICVS REX. The reverse has a voided short cross, with four pellets in each quarter, and the legend SIMON ON RVLA. The initial mark is a cross pommée. See North, Vol. 1, p221, class 973/1.

The obverse is badly worn but would have had the bust of the king facing holding a sceptre on his right. The legend would have read [hENRICVS REX]. The reverse has a voided short cross with four pellets in each quarter. The legend reads [R]AVF ON LVN[DE]. Minted by Rauf of London.
