Lead or lead-alloy inkwell of probable post medieval date, c1600-1800AD. The inkwell is broadly octagonal in plan.  In profile the inkwell is broadly rectangular in shape with a domed top. At the centre of the dome is a circular hole, with an internal diameter of 8.4mm, for the ink.  The edges of the inkwell are rounded and the base is roughly cast and slightly concave. The inkwell is a mid-grey colour with a good well-developed patina which covers all surfaces. Measurements: Height: 43.8mm; width: 43.3mm; depth: 44.3mm; weight: 325g

The inkwell is broadly sub-rectangular in plan.  In profile the inkwell is broadly trapezoid in shape with a dome, slightly inset from the edges, on the top. At the centre of the dome is a large circular hole, for the ink.  Around the base of the dome are four further smaller holes, presumably for holding quills.
