A cast copper-alloy mount or strap fitting of possible Medieval - Post Medieval date.  The object has a central lobe and two terminal lobes each containing a sub-circular perforation and has bevelled edges. The central hole has a diameter of 2.6mm. The left hole has a diameter of 5.2mm and the right hole has a diameter of 4mm. Due to the smaller size of the central hole, this could have been for a rivet. Underneath the centre hole, the body of the object curves inwards towards it. A small triangular knop is above the left hole. No decoration is present. The reverse is f…

An incomplete copper alloy strap slide or fitting, of Roman to Post Medieval dating (AD 43 to AD 1600). The strap slide consists of a rectangular bar with incomplete ends. One end exhibits a 90 degree bend. The breaks are patinated.  It measures 31.0 mm in length, 8.9 mm wide and 10.3 mm thick. It weighs 8.9 g. The strap slide is a dark green to brown colour, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail. This fragment is from the back of a strap slide, which could be Roman…

A cast copper-alloy circular loop of uncertain date. The loop has know datable diagnostic features. It is possibly a strap loop and just possibly a very small finger ring, although the small diameter (external 18.43 mm, internal 13.4 mm) and relatively crude execution perhaps makes this less likely. The loop tapers from 4.56 mm in height to 3.55 mm, and from 3.26 mm thick to 2.6 mm. The outer surface is much abraded and corroded but the interior has a smooth dark green patina.

In plan mount is a 'T' shape with a horizontal semi-circle which is fixed centrally to the lower terminal of the vertical bar. The semi-circle has a central circular hole which is counter sunk on the front face and the reverse. The horizontal bar is sub-circular in section, with the cast seam visible along its upper edge. The vertical bar is trapezoidal in section with the narrow facing at the front of the mount. The front face of this bar is also curved, thereby becoming convex. This curve continues to the upper edge of the horizontal bar. The reverse of the mount is flat. The item h…
