A silver Roman republican denarius. The coin is worn and damaged and so establishing the exact ruler is problematic, although based upon the female bust on the obverse and the presence of Victory seated right on the reverse it is likely to be of either Marcus Cato (Cato the Younger), and may have been struck during the Civil War when he was in Africa between 47-46 BC, or his father, M Porcius Cato, in which case the coin coin would date from 93-91 BC.
