A pierced early-medieval silver penny of Ecgberht of Kent (c.765-80), mint: Canterbury, moneyer: Udd (North 200; Chick 87). Ref: Chick 2011: plate 12; North 1994: 74. There is a piercing approximately in the centre of the coin (the direction of piercing from reverse to obverse). On the outside edge at 2 o'clock obverse/10 o'clock reverse the outer edge is deformed inwards. This may suggest that the coin was attached to something by tying between the piercing and edge at this location.
