A silver denarius of Carausius (AD 286-293) (Reece Period 14). ADVENTVS AVG, reverse type depicting Emperor on horseback left. Mintmark: -//RSR; commonly attributed to London, but to be studied further. RIC V, pt II, p. 508, no 535.

This is one of the five common reverse types for Carausian denarii. Sam Moorhead has included this coin in his corpus for the new edition of Roman Imperial Coinage.

~~ Silver, denarius of Carausius (AD286-293), reverse type: EXPECTA(T)[E?] (VENI?), two figures, probably Britannia and the emperor, standing holding hands; Britannia also holds a wreath or patera. No mint mark, Unattributed Mint. This coin shares the same dies with Shiel, The Episode of Carausius and Allectus, p. 119, no. 9 which is the same coin that was sold by CNG, Triton XIV, 4.1.2011, Lot 817. There is a coin with the same reverse type, but a different reverse legend (V/M/NETOPA AVG - apparently non-sensical) in the British Museum (R 3512). This coin is included in Sam Moorhead…
