An incomplete struck / knapped blade, formed from a tertiary debitage flake, of probable Neolithic dating (c. 4,000 BC to c. 2, 350 BC). The probable blade has a sub trapezoidal cross section, and is sub rectangular in shape. Retouch is present along the long edges and the short side (short, subparallel, abrupt). The probable blade has been made from a piece of tertiary debitage, probably the remains of a core for making blades. The flake has been made from a dark grey flint, with little surface patination. A complete flake from a prepared core of Late Neolithic to Early Iron Age dating (3300 BC to 1000 BC). The flake is sub rectangular in shape and a mid brown colour. Part of a striking platform is present at the top of the flake. Retouch is present along both edges and can be classified as short, sub-parallel, semi-abrupt. It measures 40.6 mm in length, 24.9 mm maximum width, and 6.0 mm maximum thickness. It weighs 7.2 g. Flakes like this from prepared cores could date from between the Late Neolithic through to the Early Iron Age. This flake is prob…

A complete flint debitage flake of the Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age period, dating from c. BC 3000 - BC 1500. The object is broadly leaf shape in plan and triangular in section. There are the remains of a pronounced bulb of percussion at the proximal end of the ventral face, with evidence of shallow concoidal ripple marks. There appears to be evidence of short, parallel, abrupt retouch on the right edge towards the distal end. On the dorsal face around 25% of the cortex remains. There is evidence of long, parallel, semi abrupt retouch on the left side towards the proximal end. O…

Object type: RETOUCHED FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Worcestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete Mesolithic to Neolithic retouched flake, dating 10,000-2,350 BC. The flake is triangular in form with retouch on both mesal sides. The bulb of percussion is visible on the ventral face, few other indicators of knapping are present. The type of retouch is short, sub-parallel and low-angled. Due to the incompleteness of this object it is difficult to further specify a period of production. Dimensions: length: 22.93 mm; width: 20.6 mm; thickness: 4.87 mm; weight: 1.6g.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint scraper of probable later Neolithic or Early Bronze Age date (2700-1800 BC). The scraper is broadly oval in shape, knapped from a secondary flake. The upper dorsal face of the scraper exhibits a series of flake scars on the right hand side suggesting that this piece has been heavily worked / reworked. The ventral face is flat with a series of conchoidal ripples and the bulb of percussion present. The striking platform has been reworked. There is a small amount of cortex present on the left hand side of the dorsal face. The areas of retouch extend around 80% of the outer edges a…

An incomplete worked flint borer, of Late Neolithic dating (2700 BC to c. 2350 BC). The borer is sub triangular in plan, with a semi circular cross section. It has been made from a piece of tertiary debitage as none of the original cortex is present. Both the dorsal and ventral surfaces display conchoidal ripples. The base of the borer has been deliberately broken at a diagonal. Retouch is present around the apex of the borer and can be classified as Short, Parallel, Semi-abrupt. It measures 48.5 mm in length, a maximum width of 21.4 mm and is 3.8 mm thick. It weighs 4.3 g. The flin…

Broad period: NEOLITHIC

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A prehistoric worked flint of probable Neolithic or early Bronze Age date, dating from circa 3500 to 1500 BC. The flint is clearly worked with an obvious striking platform and a bulb of percussion at the proximal end. It is incomplete and snapped, missing the distal end. At least half of the flint appears to be missing. Bifacial retouch has been applied to both lateral edges. On the dorsal face an area of cortex has been left on the left lateral edge, probably to facilitate comfortable handling of the object. The retouch on both lateral edges has served to blunt the blade here and may…

A prehistoric worked scraper of Neolithic or early Bronze Age date, dating from circa 3500 to 1500 BC. The flint is clearly worked with an obvious striking platform and a bulb of percussion at the proximal end. Bifacial retouch has been applied to the distal end and both lateral edges, forming several usable scraping surfaces. On the dorsal face there is a central flat ridge from earlier flake removal when the flint was still part of a core. The flat ridge makes the scraper trapezoidal in section. The scraper measures 32.42 mm long, 22.61 mm wide, 7.94 mm thick and weighs 7.8 grams. T…

A prehistoric flint scraper of probable Neolithic or early Bronze Age date, dating from circa 3500 to 1500 BC. The flint is part cortical, the cortex possibly left deliberately to aid comfortable use, with some removed at the proximal end to allow the thumb to rest. The distal end has been extensively retouched, predominantly from the dorsal surface, though with additional retouch applied from the ventral surface. The flint measures 28.42 mm long (from proximal to distal ends), 32.95 mm wide, and weighs 10.72 mm thick and weighs 10.9 grams. The flint is a dark grey/brown in patina wit…
