It is a tapering D section metal bar, with, at the wider upper end is an oval plate which includes, in relief, a laureate, draped Classical imperial bust, facing, The features are very detailed, but rather crudely executed. The field in the background has a pitted decoration. A complete Late Iron Age to Early Roman period copper alloy skirted terret, dating to c 50BC - AD 200. It is made up of a stout oval cross section ring, now a little distorted, integral to a collar and short neck with a flange below - the skirt - which flares outwards and down, partly covering an oval loop on the underside. The upper ring shows action from the reins, very much thinner on one side, particularly the lower quarter, than the other. It is made up of a rolled strip of lead, each layer between c 2.0- 3.0mm and there are approximately eight layers, tightly wound into a sub rectangular shape. There are very straight outer cut edges,where the layers show, perhaps cut after rolling. The layers are held by nails, three copper heads, hammered flush, showing along the cut outer end of the lead strip, itself roughly torn, and one head on each of the two adjacent sides, two more on the opposite side.
