An incomplete copper alloy anthropomorphic unidentified object of uncertain date and uncertain use, possibly a strap fitting, possibly dating from the Medieval to Post Medieval period c. AD 1100-1700. The find comprises a sub circular ring, decorated with a male head extending outwards from the top edge. The top of the head is corroded but the remains of two incised horizontal lines to the left suggest hair or headgear, above the well-defined, curved brow. Below the brow are two lentoid eyes and the nose which comes off the centre of the brow. The mou…

A copper alloy unidentified object, possibly a spoon terminal, of unknown date. It is simplistic, cone shaped, with, at the top, hair or a halo shown by incised lines running from the top of the head to the rear, two drilled dots for eyes, and a suggestion of the shape of a face with the addition of curved groove below the eyes. A longitudinal moulding to left of the body may represent an arm or something held to the body. The overall shape suggests the figure wears a robe or long dress. It appears the figure was cast hollow, or partly …

An incomplete copper alloy unidentified object, possibly a bodkin, of unknown date, but possibly Post Medieval, dating to c AD 1600-1700. It is circular in section, damaged at one end, with parallel sides below which is a ridge with pronounced central arris and a groove above and below. It then bulges out a little, narrowing to a waist and bulging again, but tapering overall, to another ridge and grooves, terminating in a point. Because there is early damage to the attachment end it is not possible to estimate original length or whether it may have been attached to another object.…

An incomplete possibly Roman copper alloy three dimensional zoomorphic item, of uncertain purpose, possibly a mount, possibly dating to c. AD 43-410. What remains is in the form of a dog's head, or similar. The head is represented in a simple way, rising from an oval section neck, initially widening into two triangular pricked ears, with slight forward curl at the top, then narrowing  into a pointed muzzle with a knop for a turned up nose. There appears to have been an effort to suggest nostrils under the nose by including two small pits, with possibly a si…

A fragment of copper alloy in two parts of uncertain date or purpose. It may be a ferrule and may be Bronze Age to Post Medieval in date. Fragment 1 is curved, sub-circular in cross section and has an almost solid core, although a separate, thin central core is in evidence, which can just be seen at each end of the find. This also appears to be of copper alloy. The find has a pale green patina and some corrosion products adhering to it. Fragment 2 is similar in shape, although it is a shorter fragment, has a solid core, but does not have the separate thin central core of…

Two pieces of copper alloy plate, of uncertain purpose and date, early breaks on all sides, which may fit together although the patina is slightly different on each. Both are various shades of of very pale green to dark green with darker, grey, patches. Both  show very small sections of a turned up edge that suggest , when placed together, a circular object, c 65 - 75mm in diameter. This surface is slightly convex. On the other, concave side , one piece has a sub rectangular incuse area at one edge, close to the break wth the second piece. This rectangle shows up as a very sl…

A probably Post Medieval to Modern short section of cylindrical copper alloy rod of unknown function. The find shows an early break at one end and a terminal that has the appearance of a nail head bent down to meet the rod but this is, in fact, soldered down, or was moulded in this this way. The bent head is scored, perhaps decoratively, at the front where it meets the rod, with five indentations, matched by three more on the lower face of the opposite side. There are also similar lenticular scores on the rod. The metal is a very dark brown in colour and unblemished…

An incomplete Post Medieval lead alloy impression of a coin of uncertain use. There is about one quarter missing to an early  break. The obverse appears to show part of a head facing left and part of a legend [ ... ] D . G . Reverse is an undetermined motif. The impressions  appear to be set into the flan as if a coin (uncertain which) has been used to create them. Part of the surface of the obverse is peeled back and flattened against the face of the coin. It would have been the surface of the section now missing. Dimensions: 21.…
