A Medieval Iron axehead, dating to c.AD 1000 - 1500.  The axehead has a triangular or 'wedge'- shaped blade with a slight curve to the cutting edge; it projects downwards more than it projects upwards from the central body of the axe. The socket is filled with corrosion but is triangular in shape with a triangular wing surviving on one side, extending downwards.  When viewed from the rear, the butt of the axe appears rectangular. The trigger mechanism is formed of two parts, the body of the trigger and a jaw screw, both of which survive.
