A complete copper-alloy medieval annular buckle. (c.AD1250-1350).

An unclear late Medieval-early Post Medieval jetton, possibly a Nuremburg copy of a French jetton, c. late 15th-16th centuries AD. The obverse depicts a field of France-modern and Dauphine quarterly within a granulated inner circle; the reverse depicts a field of France-ancient within a granulated inner circle. Unlike a similar example illustrated in Bernard, the legends do not match the French style of the jetton. The obverse legend is unclear but seems to read: MV[...]E[...]NVE:B:NVA.NEVRVBGV. The reverse legend is likewise unclear, but reads: VIVA RV[...] GRVBAEVRMONDEVS. Cf. B…

Workflow stage: Published
A late medieval to early post-medieval cast copper-alloy fragment of arm from a 'locking' buckle. It has a lozenge-shaped cross-section, with a sub-spherical knob terminal decorated with simplistic incised lines, presumably meant to emulate a more complicated twisted and grooved style. The incised decoration is only found on one face of the knob terminal, with the reverse being undecorated. The fragment is of an even gold patina, suggesting a brass-like composition. It measures 36.6 mm long, 7 x 5.9 mm at terminal, 4.8 x 3.1 mm at the broken end and weighs 3.3g.
