A late Iron Age to Early Roman cast copper alloy object probably a toggle (fastener) dating c. 100BC - AD100.
The object comprises a bar of of broadly circular section, with worn gentle facets which tapers in diameter from one end at 5.49mm to 4.93mm at the other. Each end is capped with a circular disc-like terminal which are also of different diameter: 10.39mm and 11.82mm respectively. A worn, copper alloy zoomorphic figurine in the form of a standing, probably razor-backed, boar of Late Iron Age or Early Roman date (50BC-100AD).
The body of the animal is solid with a sub-triangular cross-section. Running down the top of the curving back from the tail is a worn central ridge which terminates between the ears. Flanking the end of the crest are simple ears that project upwards; both are incomplete, surviving as worn stumps. The cast ring is circular in plan and sub-circular in section with a raised moulded decorative panel running around the outside edge. The panel comprises two parallel rows of zigzag or wavy lines coming together to form a continuous looped border enclosed on each side by a single raised band.
