Medieval English 'Wardrobe' jetton with a shield of Evreux and Naverre / cross made of four fleurs design, c.1344-1400 AD. Small flan type without outer legend. This obverse type was issued in France by the counts of Evreux and Kings of Navarre (Mitchiner 1988:166-7), it was then copied on English wardrobe tokens cf Berry 1974: plate 7, no.3 where it is categorised as type 1D and Barnard (1981, p. 105) no. 57. The reverse is different from either of the quoted examples but is found on other wardrobe tokens cf Mitchiner ibid:119 no.255a and Berry (ibid) no. 4. Mernick and Algar (2001) …

Medieval English copper alloy jetton of the sterling bust type. Bust/three armed cross design, c.1300-1310 AD. Mitchiner (1988:102) no.131 is similar with a different border design. There is a central hole, common on these jettons to prevent them being silvered and passed as coins.

Medieval English copper alloy jetton with a shield on the obverse and a sterling cross and pellet design on the reverse. The shield is divided into quarters the 1st and fourth are checky and the 2nd and 3rd have an unclear design. There is a punch mark in the centre of the reverse. It is not paralleled in the usual sources but is similar to other serling jettons and rougher contemporary pieces, some of which may be official but at the cheaper end of the market. cf Mernick and Algar (2001:224,) no 50 which has a similarly better made reverse with a crude obverse and is dated to the …

Post Medieval copper alloy jetton, anonymous issue made in Nuremberg, 'Lion of Saint Mark' type, c. 1540 - c. 1570 AD; cf. Mitchiner (1998:362) ref. 1112. The jetton has lost part of the flat (c.5%) to one side. The loss is a straight line and is very worn. It may have been missing from the original jetton.

Post Medieval copper alloy jetton, probably an anonymous issue made in Nuremberg, 'Lion of Saint Mark' type, c. 1540 - c. 1570 AD; cf. Mitchiner (1998:359, 362-364) ref. 1113-1120. The jetton has lost part of the flan (c.5%) to one side. The loss is an incurved line, a feature seen on many jettons and probably original from cutting the circular flan in a way that overlapped a previous removal from the sheet. It is 27.6mm in diameter, 0.8mm thick and weighs 3.42 grams.

Medieval copper alloy jetton, type unclear; possibly four keys arranged in a cross, a pascal lamb or a different cross on one side. The other side is illegible. The jetton has been pierced with five irregular, sub-circular holes arranged roughly in a pattern with one in the centre and four in an almost square around it. The holes are old and worn. It is 19.9mm in diameter, 0.9mm thick and weighs 1.52 grams. The form of piercing is similar to modern buttons but the design is clearly that of a Medieval jetton.

A corroded 16th-century copper-alloy post-medieval jetton, anonymous issue, 'ship-penny' type, struck at Nuremberg, c. AD 1553-1559 (cf. Mitchiner 1180/1181). Mitchiner (1988, 374-375) describes these jettons as being of the 'degenerate cross in arcuate yard arm group'. He therefore dates them to the 1550s as they appear closely related to the ship-penny jettons of Jorg Schultes and Hans Schultes I.

Medieval English copper alloy jetton, round based shield of bearing three lions passant in tressure of three arches / cross moline design. Pierced through the centre. On edge of the corner there appears to be an old break, probably as a result of plough damage and at this point the edges have slightly bent. The jetton combines two reverses from the sterling bust series and is thought to be contemporary with them c.AD 1280-1340. Mitchiner (1988:111) no.198 appears very similar.

Medieval copper alloy French jetton dating to AD 1380 to 1450. Crown / triple stranded cross flueretty type with obverse legend ENVIE AMOVR REO. The type is broadly paralleld by Mitchiner (1988) on pages 179-181 but the exact design and legend are not included by him. DOR-865675 on this database appears to be of exactly the same obverse type as this but the reverse varies in the marks in the quarters and spandrels.
