Medieval silver penny of John (1199-1216) dating to the period AD 1205-1207. Short cross, class 5b, probably 5b3. Minted in London. North (1994: 221) no. 970. Mass (2001: 37-40). The coin is slightly folded and and pierced through the legend, about half way between the edge and centre, at 2 o'clock on the obverse, 7 o'clock on reverse. The unusual position suggests this may be accidental.
