An incomplete cast copper alloy strap fitting of probable late fifteenth to sixteenth century date. The fitting measures 28.8mm by 13.7mm by 2.3mm and weighs 3.9g. It consists of a sub-rectangular plate with a shallow pointed identation at the wider end. The other end is broken, but it would have terminated in a backwards curving hook, which would have held a cast copper alloy ring. The main part of the fitting is perforated by two equally spaced central rivet holes, one of which contains iron corrosion. The front of the fitting is slightly convex and the back slightly concave. Half of a cast copper alloy swivel of medieval date. The incomplete swivel is in the form of a D-shaped loop which measures 25.1mm by 26.1mm by a maximum of 5.8mm and weighs 8g. The loop has an oval cross section and thickens towards the swivelling part, both sides of which are moulded to represent stylised animal heads (possibly dogs). The swivelling part is semi-spherical with a flat top containing a circular socket. The other half of the swivel would have been similar, but it would have had a pin instead of a socket (see for example DENO-8FAF42, from Sedgebrook, Lincolnshire).

A cast copper alloy pendent loop and bar mount of medieval date. The quadrilobate loop and the adjacent mount measure 20.5mm by 11.8mm by 4mm and weigh 1.2g. The plain rectangular bar mount has a narrowed backwards-curving loop at its base. This has an expanded terminal to the rear which is rivetted to the front section, so it could be attached to a strap. The loop upper lobe is straight, so it can be suspended from the bar mount. A similar example is illustrated in Egan and Pritchard's 'Dress Accessories' (1991, pp. 219, 221, no. 1189).

A cast copper strap fitting of probable seventeenth century date. The circular fitting measures 22mm by 16.2mm by 9.2mm and weighs 2.9g. It has a three-tier domed front and a concave back. Two pointed lugs project from the edge. These are set opposite each other, one currently pointing inwards and the other outwards. These lugs would pass through the strap leather to hold the fitting in place. Similar strap fittings can be seen in Brian Read's 'Metal Artefacts of Antiquity' (pp. 27 and 33, nos. 265-6).

A possible cast copper alloy sword belt fitting of early post-medieval date. The incomplete fitting measures 36mm by 18.6mm by 9.1mm and weighs 4.6g. It consists of an incomplete flat plate with a forwards-curving hook at one end. This curves back on itself to become parallel with the plate and terminates in a stylised zoomorphic knop. Just above this terminal there is a rivet hole in the plate. This contains the remains of a copper alloy rivet. The front of the plate is decorated with a grooved diagonal line which might have formed part of an heraldic bend. Geoff Egan comments he has …

Probably medieval copper alloy strap loop. It is sub-rectangular in shape. One of the longer sides is straight, with a flat inner edge and rounded outer edge. The ends of this side protrude slightly beyond the corners of the loop. The other sides are rectangular in section. The other longer side has a break in the middle, where a portion is missing. The object is undecorated. It lacks the usual rivet holes or projections of strap loops, but probably functioned as one nonetheless. Similar examples can be seen in Egan and Pritchard (1991, 232), fig.147, suggesting a similar fourteenth ce…

Fragment of a cast copper alloy fitting, probably from a sword belt, with pendant still attached. Only the tip of the fitting survives. This has a slight hollow near the break on the reverse. Above the hook are two moulded lobes extending from the sides. Below this the integral hook extends downwards, bending round and back up to form a loop. The pendant has a large attachment loop at the top. It extends downwards a short way before going in slightly and then culminating in a rough tear-drop shape. The upper surface of the pendant shows some evidence of moulded decoration, but this is …
