A conical cast lead alloy weight of uncertain date with flat base and rounded point. In indent near the point does not appear to develop into a hole. It is 19.6mm by 16.3mm at the base and 33.5mm tall; it weighs 45.38 grams. Plain weights were cast locally in lead from the Roman period onwards for a wide variety of uses and are hard to date precisely although most are late Medieval - Post Medieval

Cast lead alloy weight, probably of Medieval to Post-Medieval date. The weight is a truncated cone with a sub-circular flat base from which the sides taper inwards to the flattened round topped terminal. The sides are slightly angular with four convex sides meeting in rounded corners. The terminal has a circular piercing through it for suspension. There is an irregularly shaped off centre indentation on the base, either a casting flaw or damage. The weight measures 30.9mm high, 24.4mm in diameter at the base and weighs 70.50 grams. Lead weights were used for a long period and lack…

Flat, slightly oval lead weight with lumps of another material, stone or copper alloy set into each side. The weight is 26.7mm by 24.3mm and 10.2mm thick; 8.4mm excluding the inset material. It weighs 42.46 grams. Lead weights in copper alloy casings are known from the 11th - 12th century, e.g. HAMP-EEBC91 but the material on this example appears to be set it. Other lead weights with copper alloys set into them are known but these have an item on one side only and it is always a decorative piece of copper alloy. It is not clear if the material in this case was incorporated deliberat…

A flat circular lead weight of uncertain date, possibly Post Medieval. There is evidence of a fold across the centre and a tear in the edge at one end of the fold. There is a small square hole through the weight, slightly off ceentre. There appears to be a scratched design on both sides of the weight but this is obscured by the large number of indents, probably from damage, on both faces. The scratched designs maybe of a square on one face and lines radiating out from the hole on the other. It is now 30.8mm by 28.3mm, 3.3mm thick and it weighs 15.80grams.

Cast lead alloy weight, probably of Medieval to Post-Medieval date. The weight is in the shape of a truncated cone with a sub-circular flat base from which the sides taper inwards to the flattened round topped apex. The weight has been perforated, with an irregularly shaped hole running from the apex to the base. The weight measures 20.64mm in height, 32.80mm in diameter at the base and weighs 106.08 g. Lead weights were used for a long period and lack many diagnostic features, so are difficult to date precisely although most are Medieval or Post medieval in date.

A lead disc, probably a one ounce pan weight of medieval to post medieval date c 1400 - 1700 AD. The weight is circular in plan and rectangular in cross section. The edge of the disc has a circumferential rim 4.2 mm wide and raised 1.8mm above the body of the weight. Neither face of the weight has clear decoration, although the reverse may have impressed lines on it. however, these may also be the result of the weight being slightly bent. The weight is a creamy white colour and has two holes in its body, both sub-oval in shape and the result of damage rather than intentional pie…

Medieval cast lead alloy weight. The weight is circular with a flat base and a raised moulded design on the top. The design is of a cross with pellets in each quarter. One quarter appears incomplete from damage or mis-casting at the edge. It measures 30.5mm in diametre and 6.4 mm in thickness; it weighs 22.95g. Very similar, although heavier weights are recorded by Biggs and Withers (2000: 24, no.35 and 38) who suggest a Medieval date. It is currently c.0.8 of an ounce and it is possible that complete and uncorroded it would weigh about an ounce. Similar designs are also seen on l…

Medieval cast lead-tin alloy shield shaped trade weight with a raised cross on the front. It is shield-shaped in outline with a straight top and convex sides curving in to meet at a point at the bottom. The edges are corroded and laminating and the corners worn. The front is moulded into a raised long cross. It measures 32.7mm in height, 30.8mm in width, 12.9mm thick and weighs 37.6 grams. Similar designs can be seen in Biggs and Withers (2000:43), no. 123 and 121 who suggest a late 12th to 15th century date.
