A flint notched piece of probable Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. The implement has been made from a tertiary flake. At the proximal end is the striking platform and below this on the ventral surface is the bulb of percussion and a bulbar scar. Ripples radiate down the ventral surface. On the dorsal surface there are three main flaking scars and in the central of one lateral edge there is a retouched notch. The smaller notch adjacent may have been caused by natural damage. The milky light brownish-grey flint has a mid-gloss patina.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Small notched flint waste flake of probable Neolithic to Bronze Age date. The flake has three parallel flaking scars on the dorsal face. A 'V' shaped notch is missing at the proximal end. This is possibly resulting from frost or plough damage following deposition. On the left-hand side of the dorsal face is another notch that appears to have been deliberately worked and shows some possible signs of wear through use. Below this, towards the proximal end could be a few abrupt, short, scaled removals, but their small size and extent makes this difficult to confirm. The flint is light grey…

A flint Y-shaped tool of early Neolithic date. A tertiary flake, probably struck with a soft hammer. The tool is sub-trapezoidal in cross-section, with a longitudinal ridge to either side of the dorsal face, the one to the left slightly higher. Both sides are fairly straight and slope inwards toward the rounded distal end. The proximal end is concave, giving the object a 'Y' shape. There is extensive semi-abrupt, long, scaled retouch along the left edge of the dorsal face, with a small amount of further retouch along the right edge of the ventral face. Along the right edge of the dors…

Worked flint fragment from an unclear implement. The piece is made on a large flake with part of the bulb of percussion still visible on the ventral side. The proximal end and the right edge (seen form the ventral side) are broken with a right angled edge which has possibly broken around a flaw in the flint in the centre of this edge. The left edge on the ventral face, right edge and side of the dorsal face and the distal end are covered large, invasive, scalar, semi-abrupt removals. This retouch is similar to that seen on large tools such as large knives and axes which are roughly sh…

A flint implement of probable Neolithic or early Bronze Age date. The implement measures 50.7mm by 34.3mm by 9.8mm and weighs 8.7g. It has been made from a secondary flake (30% nodule cortex on the dorsal surface) of slightly transparent dark brown flint. It is fresh and complete. The striking platform and part of the bulb of percussion have been removed by short semi-abrupt retouch. This extends down one lateral side and has been carried out on both the dorsal and ventral surfaces, to form a scraping edge. The other lateral side has a concave curve. This also appears to have been reto…

A flint lithic implement of probable Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age date (c. 3000 - 1600 BC). The piece is struck off a secondary flake and the dorsal retains c. 15% cortex. The implement has been burnt and the dorsal surface exhibits fire cracking which has caused substantial crushing on the edges of the piece. The ventral surface exhibits a low diffuse bulb of percussion and concentric conchoidal ripple marks. The flint is a mottled dark brown/grey with lighter grey inclusions.
The implement measures 38.09mm in length, 39.46mm in width, is 17.55mm thick and weighs 30.18g.

A Neolithic flint flake dating to the period c. 4000 - 2350 BC. A tertiary medium greying brown flint with occasional off white inclusions. The dorsal surface has three flake scars one of which appears to be in a different direction to the other two. On the right edge as seen from the dorsal surface, close to the distal end is a semi-circular notch and traces off occasional very short, semi-abrupt retotuch marks. This serves to accentuate the distal point of the flint and to soften the notch.
The proximal end has been lost to a hinge fracture removing the bulb of percussion and str…

Flint implement, possible knife fragment, probably Neolithic (4000-2350 B.C.). Flint, grey-brown in colour, semi-translucent, medium gloss patina. D-shaped in plan, although slightly pointed on the curve, with the straighter edge likley representing an accidental break during production. Pointed-oval shape in cross section.Tertiary working. Retouch is visible on all edges apart from the broken terminal. It is bifacial, invasive, scaled and low angle.
Dimensions: Length 24.33m, width 30.44mm, maximum thickness 10.61mm, weight 7.83g.

Fragment of a lithic implement. Probably Mesolithic (10,000 - 4000 BC). Black and dark grey opaque flint. Tertiary flake. U-shaped in plan. Sub-triangular in cross-section. Invasive, scaled and low-angled retouch on the left half of one face and a little more on the right edge (when viewed with the pointed end at the bottom). This face is concave and may be the ventral face. Long, scaled and semi-abrupt retouch on the underside of the pointed end. All other faces appear to be accidental or post-depositional breaks.

Small flint notched flake. There are three long thin flaking scars on the dorsal face and a further smaller scar at the distal end. The right edge curves inwards with a notch in its centre which appears to have been deliberately manufactured. The left edge and distal edge show signs of very crude, limited retouch. To the ventral face the bulb and ripple lines are fairly diffuse. The butt is quite broad. The flint is grey-brown in colour with a mottled creamy patina. The object was found with material of Mesolithic date, but could be of Neolithic or even early Bronze Age date.

Secondary flake - some pebble cortex remains on the dorsal face. There are several large flaking scars on the dorsal face. To the left of the distal end is a small notch formed from a small amount of crude semi-abrupt, short, scaled retouch which continues around the distal end. Cracking and damage can be seen within the notch more than anywhere else on the object and this damage also seems to be patinated, suggesting that it may be the result of us…

A crude tool, which may possibly have had several functions. Both edges have sporadic short, fine, sub-parallel retouch in only a few places, creating an almost serrated edge. The proximal end has also been shaped into a slight point. The object could therefore be described as a saw, scraper, or piercer/borer. All surfaces and edge are quite uneven. The flint is grey in colour with many lighter speckles and a milky patina. The lack of diagnostic features means the object could be of Mesolithic to early Bronze Age date.
