A flint lithic implement of probable Neolithic date (c. 4000 - 2350 BC). The implement is struck off a tertiary flake and retains no cortex. The dorsal surface exhibits four negative flake scars from previous blade removal, one of which exhibits a step termination. There is short, parallel, abrupt retouch along one mesal edge and around the distal end. The other mesal edge exhibits short, scaled abrupt and semi-abrupt retouch from the distal end to approximately half-way up the body of the flake. The striking platform is small and semi-circular in shape. The ventral surface exhibits a …

A flint retouched flake of probable Neolithic date (c. 4000 - 2350 BC). The flake is lozengiform in shape and has been struck off a secondary flake. It retains cortex comprising c.5% of the dorsal surfac area along one mesal edge. The dorsal surface exhibits two parallel negative flake scars from previous flake removal running at a ninety degree angle to the bulb of percussion on the ventral surface, indicating a change in striking direction on the core. There is some evidence of frost fracturing on the dorsal surface. The flake exhibits short, sub-parallel, semi-abrupt retouch runnin…

Object type: LEAF ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Wiltshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A probably incomplete leaf shaped arrow head of Neolithic date (4000-2350 BC). The flake is bifacially worked with slightly convex faces. It is transversally broken at the top (distal end) with an old patnated break. It is also broken at the bottom, slightly on one side, with a large inwards break on the other, these breaks are only partially patinated, sugesting they are more recent damage. The flake has an invasive parallel shallow retouch on both sides along both edges apart from the right edge near the proximal end on the ventral face. The flint has a white/pale grey patina. It me…

Distal end of a econdary flint blade, probably of Mesolithic to Early Neolithic date. The blade is elongated and curved with a high arched dorsal face. Traces of cortex on left medial and proximal end covered c. 20% of dorsal face. The dorsal surface has three parallel vertical scars created by uni-directional flaking. The proximal end and bulb of percussion have been removed by snapping. A few long scalar removals at this point may indicate the snapping was deliberate. The flint is dark brown. The blade measures 67.5 mm in length, 17.4 mm in width, 6.0 mm in thickness and weighs 8…

The blade has been struck off a prepared platform with part of the platform on the proximal end and percussion ripples remaining on the ventral face.
