Three shards from Medieval externally glazed earthenware vessels. All were found in the same field and are of a very similar fabric. This is fairly hard, medium-grained and slightly chalky. It is grey-white in colour, with a slight pinkish tinge in places, perhaps from the soil, and is tempered with plentiful rounded quartz. A mottled greenish-yellow glaze can be seen on the outer surface. The fabric is very similar to that of a spouted pitched described by Hodges and Mainman (1984, p.41) and thought to be of 12th century date. The source of this fabric was not indentified, but may be…

A rim shard from a late Medieval thin-walled earthenware vessel. The rim is roughly triangular in cross-section and slightly everted. The original diameter of the vessel would have been around 12cm. The outer surface is grey-brown in colour, while the core is pinkish-brown. The fabric is fairly hard and gritty and is tempered with plentiful quartz (<1mm) and rare dark iron ore (<2mm). A 15th century vessel with a simlar rim can be seen in Allan (1984, p.65, fig.28 no.828). Length: 35.90mm, Width: 22.44mm, Thickness: 6.81mm, Weight: 5.51g
