A fragment of a cast copper alloy socketed axehead of late Bronze Age date. The fragment measures 42.3mm by 28.5mm by 5.4mm and weighs 27.7g. It comprises part of two sides of the socket, which has a thickened edge and an adjacent transverse linear moulding, and a short length of the axhead itself. There is a further longitudinal moulding in the centre of one of the surviving sides. A smaller fragment of copper alloy was found nearby. Although it does not appear to join with the larger fragment, the thickness, general appearance and patina are consistent and the two fragments may we…

Fragment of the butt of a Bronze Age palstave axe. The fragment is wedge shaped with raised edges of each side creating a 'H' shaped profile. The fragment is in fairly poor condition; it is eroded and pitted with very rounded edges. However, a small amount of dark-green, shiny patina can be seen in a few places. The small size and worn condition of the fragment makes it difficult to determine the original form of the palstave. However, it probably dates to the mid Bronze Age. Length: 28.6mm, Width: 21.7mm, Thickness: 10.2mm Weight: 23.4g

Lump or 'cake' of copper alloy metal working debris. The lump has a flat base, mishapen sides and a rounded top with a sub-circular depression roughly in the centre. Cast copper alloy awl/tracer. The centre of the awl, which is circular in cross-section, measures 4.7mm in diameter. It tapers, gradually at first then increasingly, to a circular sectioned point at one end (awl end). The other end is squared off just beyond the mid point then tapers to a rectangular sectioned point (tracer end). It is 44.2mm long and weighs 3.51 grams. Plain copper alloy awls are hard to date precisely but ones of this form are known to have been introduced in the Bronze Age (2150-800 BC) with most being Late Bronze Age in date (1150-800 BC).

A small fragment of copper alloy, probably from the tip of a spearhead of middle to late Bronze Age date: 1500-800 BC. The fragment is lentoid in cross-section, creating a slight ridge along the centre of both faces. It is very worn and pitted and the edges are damaged. It is difficult to see whether the end of the socket is visible within the break due to this damage and the small size of the fragment. The form of the original spearhead is impossible to determine and so it is difficult to date beyond middle to late Bronze Age. Length: 27.21mm, Width: 15.65mm, Thickness: 2.87mm, We…
