Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An iron axe head of probable Post Medieval to Modern date (c. AD 1600 - 1950). The head is trapezoidal in shape and curves slightly along its length. It expands in width and tapers in thickness from the butt end to the cutting edge. The butt end and the cutting edge are both rounded. It exhibits an oval socket measuring 22.8mm in width. Length: 129mm, Width: 22.8 mm, Thickness: 35.7mm. The axehead is most likely to be a wood working tool dating from c. AD 1600-1950, as it lacks the retangular or triangular lugs on either side of the socket which are common in Roman and medie…

Object type: LAMP FITTING
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy item of uncertain use, probably a candle or lamp holder and of uncertain date, possibly Roman or Medieval. The item appears almost complete and is made of four copper alloy pieces. At one end is a conical socket with an open end and a triangular gap down one side where the triangular sheet piece was rolled into a socket and the edges didn't fully join. It is possible this is a socket to go onto a woodern pole or handle as it does not have the more cylindrical section common on candlesticks but a function as a socket for a candle can't be ruled out. The cone is 18.8mm in d…
