The early jetons of Hans I share much in common with issues of his father Iorg and occasionally die links are observed between jetons of father and son. These closely related issues were probably struck at the Schultes workshop during the period when father and son were joint Masters (December 1553 to January 1559), or close to that time'
Mitchiner (ibid. p.400) also comments that Schultes' 'rose/orb' jettons (such as this one), '...appear to have been the most popular jetons of Hans Schultes I. They reached London and were lost in the River Thames in far greater numbers than any of his other products. The series begins with jetons showing the special form of treasure that he shared with his father Iorg. These probably date from the 1550s. Post Medieval copper alloy jetton, anonymous issue made in Nuremberg, 'Lion of Saint Mark' type, c. 1540 - c. 1570 AD; cf. Mitchiner (1998:362) ref. 1112. The jetton has lost part of the flat (c.5%) to one side. The loss is a straight line and is very worn. It may have been missing from the original jetton.

Post Medieval copper alloy jetton, probably an anonymous issue made in Nuremberg, 'Lion of Saint Mark' type, c. 1540 - c. 1570 AD; cf. Mitchiner (1998:359, 362-364) ref. 1113-1120. The jetton has lost part of the flan (c.5%) to one side. The loss is an incurved line, a feature seen on many jettons and probably original from cutting the circular flan in a way that overlapped a previous removal from the sheet. It is 27.6mm in diameter, 0.8mm thick and weighs 3.42 grams.

Insofar as the issues of Damianus Krauwinckel (d. 1581) are stylistically later than both the anonymous issues and those of Hans Schultes I (d. 1584) one should probably date the end of the anonymous stock issues to the years around 1570'. 1.11DistrictCertain464SOM104955.981570Restricted Accessx410473.54South Somerset10627Jetton2011-02-24T13:16:41ZReturned to finderSouth WestCircaA copper alloy Post-Medieval 'Lion of Saint Mark' jetton, anonymous issue, c.1500-70.
