Medieval copper alloy Tournai jetton dating to c. AD 1500 to 1525. Rose shield of Tournai variant / cross potent with fictitious legends. Minted at Tournai. Variant on Mitchiner (1988, 237) no. 718 and Mernick and Algar (2001, 238) no.179. Unlike the common type which has two angled fleur de lis and a trefoil this example has three fleur de lis on the lower part of the shield below the three roses in chief. LVPL-039822 on this database is similar.

It measures 19.04mm in diameter, 0.93mm in thickness and weighs 1.58g The reverse design is known with the 'pellety crown' sterling bust obverse as published by Mitchiner (1988, 106; no. 164), associated by Lawrence, quoted therein, with Class 15 Edwardian busts, that is, from 1319. An incomplete medieval copper-alloy French jetton of the crown / triple stranded cross fleuretty type. AVE MARIA GRACIA P legend, c. AD 1385-1422, see Mitchiner (1988, 181) no. 476; Mernick and Algar (2001, 255) no. 75 is a direct parallel, there dated c. 1400-1425 About a 10th of the flan is missing to a worn break along one edge. There is also an irregular hole near one edge at 11 o'clock however this is irregular in outline broadly triangular) and has a crack running from it so may be damage rather than deliberate piercing. It measures 25.8 mm in diameter and weighs 3.3g
