A cast copper alloy Post-Medieval mount. The mount has two circular, open loops, with a lobe at either end of the join. The outer sides of each circle have two lobes on their inner edge. To the reverse are two long, pointed attachment lugs. The mount is bent slightly out of shape. Its integral lugs and similarity to buckles of this period, suggest a c.17th century date. Length: 24.94mm, Width: 17.27mm, Thickness: 1.99mm, Weight: 3.8g

The edges are slightly angled and the back is flat. Two integral rivet spikes project from the back; one appears complete and is bent outwards 180 degrees, the other is broken leaving just a worn stub. It is 24.0mm long, 16.2mm wide and 1.4mm thick excluding the rivets, 4.3mm thick including them; it weighs 2.21 grams. SOM-3FBAC5 on…

A probably Post medieval copper-alloy openwork belt mount or harness fitting dating to c. 1500-1700. The mount is circular in plan and slightly domed with convex front and concave back. An incomplete Post-Medieval cast copper alloy mount with one of originally two integral mounting spikes. The mount's body is sub-oval in form but may have originally been circular, its outside edge being chipped away. This area is domed in cross section with a convex upper surface and concave rear. The front is decorated around its survving outer edge with a raised border and at its centre with a raised circular border leaving a central circular cell within. No trace of enamel or glue material remains in this cell. The region between the circular border and outside edge has several…

A broken copper-alloy mount of post-medieval date, though it is uncertain to what it would have belonged. Formed of one piece the object has two zones, the smaller a thinner handle-like end, broken and slightly bent and twisted one way following old damage. From this smaller end (general W.: c. 8.6mm) the object begins to widen before a transverse groove on the upper surface which divides the handle end from the larger zone. The larger end continues to expand very gradually along its length, attaining a width of 17.4mm at an old ragged break. The mount has a rectangular cross-secti…

A post-medieval cast copper-alloy mount in the shape of an acorn. The front is slightly convex and the back concave. There are the stubs of two integral circular sectioned rivet spikes on the back, one near either end, both off centre. Most of the spikes are lost to patinated breaks but enough remains of one to see it was bent downwards 90 degrees. The acorn has an elongated oval shape with a thinner 'nut', a raised plain collar across the middle and a broader cup below decorated with raised lozenges in a grid. At the centre of the lower point of the cup is the stub of a stem, lost to…

A incomplete gilded copper alloy openwork mount of probable Post-Medieval date. The surviving mount comprises of probably c. 60% of the original, which was likely symetrical. Probably originally positioned centrally, at one end of the surviving mount is a pyramidal boss. This is set within a series of leaves, or perhaps more likely, the petals of a flower, with further detail incised into the surface of each. The plate which expands from one edge of the boss is incomplete, missing its terminal, and the breaks on the opposite side of the boss are suggestive of a corresponding symet…

A copper alloy decorative fragment probably a mount of Post-Medieval date. In plan the artefact is made of two sub oval domes joined together at their sides by a thin strip of flat metal on their lower half and extending into rounded tips like two adjacent petals or leaves. These domes are concave on their reverse such that they are hollow. The edges at the tip of these leaves are both slightly bent over 90 degrees while the edge below the join of these domes is curved. However it is uncertain whether these may simply be the result of post-depositional damage. The object is dark…

Medieval, copper-alloy, large, circular mount depicting the white boar of Richard III, dating to the later 15th century (1470-1485). The mount is gilded, silvered and enamelled and consists of two parts: a decorated disc held in a separate circular frame which has integral rivets and separate roves. The 63.4mm diameter disc has a slightly raised design of a boar walking left on an area of ground. Around this is an opaque red enamel background which ends before it meets the frame with the remainder gilded. There are areas of damage to this background particularly at 12 and 6 o'clo…
