Translucent pale blue-green (aqua) glass bead of uncertain date. The bead appears to be oval in plan and oval in section giving a globular shape with slightly flattened top and bottom. There is a circular hole through the centre with a slight chip to one side. Spiralling indented lines are visible on the end and sides where the glass was wound around a pontil to make the bead. The glass indents into the the holes at the end visible from the photo. The hole is 3mm in diameter. The bead is 10mm long and 12mm in diameter. The spiral lines suggest the bead was hand made by winding bu…

A water worn, sub oval pebble, probably a beach pebble of a hard, fine grained rock. One side is completely worn flat, probably from use as a smoother, polisher or possibly whetstone. It is 54.6mm long, 43.6mm wide, 30.4mm thick and weighs 106 grams. The rock is a Devonian sandstone deliberately brought in to the area, possibly form the Quantocks (D. Parsons pers com). It is not closely datable as an object and may be Prehistoric to Post Medieval in date

Object type: ARCHITECTURAL FRAGMENT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: North Somerset

One fragment of burnt clay which is probably a piece of daub. Orangey-pink external layer with buff areas. Sand inclusions, c.5% of total and occasional soft orange inclusions, fired daub or plaster. Irregular shape with a shallow C shaped groove, probably an impression from the wattle to which this would have been stuck. 13.97 grams. Such material is hard to date out of context and could be Iron Age - Post Medieval but given other material found near by it is probably Roman.

Object type: STEELYARD WEIGHT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: North Somerset

Cast lead alloy globular weight with the stubs of corroded iron suspension loops embedded at the top and bottom. The weight is now sub-spheircal with damaged areas at the base and top covered with iron corrosion. The stubs of loops appear to be made of circular sectioned wire which may run completely through the weight. The weight is 26.9mm in diameter, 22.3mm thick, excluding the loop, 26.1mm including and weighs 83.41 grams, just under 3 ounces. The loops suggest it or use with a steelyard. Similar bi-conical and globular lead weights with iron loops are usually dated to the Roma…
