A medieval rectangular copper alloy mount with enamel and gilded decoration and religious inscription. The plaque is now slightly distorted but would have been flat with a small circular hole at each corner. The corners are slightly expanded and distorted around the holes. The front is decorated with a narrow unrecessed border surrounding alternating horizontal bands, five recessed and six unrecessed. One end of a rectangular copper alloy plaque that has been inscribed with Greek on one side dating to 1625-1825. The object has been damaged where edges have bent and there is a break along one end where the remainder is missing. The back surface has been engraved with rangom rectangular lines, probably keying. The plaque is now 58mm in length and 34.3mm in height and has a thickness of 1.1mm. It weighs 15.18g. There are six lines of inscription on the front of the plaque. Medieval copper alloy plaque with the indented letters IhS (I.h.S) filled with red enamel. The plaque is a parallelogram, ie rectangular with both short ends angled in the same direction and, as is common on crucifixes, probably designed to be displayed at an angle, There are two circular fixing rivet holes provideing stops between the letters.The back is plain with traces of gilding. There are also small traces of gilding on the front around the letters. The S is distinctly smaller then the other two letters but it is not clear why.
