A lead alloy probable gaming piece of Medieval to Post-Medieval or date (410 - 1700 AD). The object is of a flattened, smooth lead ball that although is difficult to date, most likely dates to the Roman to Post Medieval period. Measurements: Diameter: 15.66mm, thickness 8.47mm, Weight: 8.76g.

Post Medieval lead disc with a design of a horse and rider, probably a gaming piece or toy or possibly a weight. The disc has a raised cast design on the front wihin an indented circular line border. The back is rounded as though it was cast face down or cast and struck. The horse is galloping left with tail steaming behind them. The rider holding a vertical item in front of them, a sword or standard. The disc is 28.9mm in diameter, 6.8mm thick and weighs 37.6g. A lead hexagonal object that could be a weight or gaming piece. The object was cast and is complete. It is hexagonal in plan and trapezoidal in cross section with a slightly narrower upper surface compared to its lower surface which has rounded corners. The centre of the object is pierced by a small circular hole that is narrower on the upper surface (c. 2.1mm diameter) than the lower surface also (5.3mm diameter) and is surrounded by a raised border. A roughly cast lead alloy artefact, possibly a gaming piece, possibly dating to the Early Medieval period. The object is sub rectangular in plan with two curved and two straight sides and highly domed in cross section with a flat base. At each of its 'corners' it has a raised ridge running to meet each the others at the apex of the dome. Circular lead piece of uncertain function, possibly a gaming counter of uncertain, Roman - Post Medieval date. The piece is disciodal with straight sides and a raised design of four ovals arranged in a square with an indented concave sided cross between them and indented border. Each raised oval has a slight central indent. On the back there are oval depressions corresponding to the raised areas on the front. A glass Roman gaming counter dating to the period c. AD 43 - 410. The counter is oval in shape and convex. The reverse is slightly dished. The counter is a very dark opaque blue/black colour. The underside of the gaming counter exhibits a number of air holes from the manufacture process. Similar pieces have been found at Silchester, and Colchester and are discussed in Crummy, N, 1983, Colchester Archaeological Report 2, p.92 - 93, fig. 95. A Roman ceramic gaming piece, made from a re-worked sherd of pottery probably 4th century in date. The gaming piece is circular in shape with smooth edges where the ceramic sherd has been worn and smoothed. The external surface has been particularly abraded and the surface mostly worn off. The fabric of the gaming piece is not entirely clear although due to the fine quartz inclusions and the finished surfaces it may be from a black burnished ware vessel which was exposed to oxidising kiln conditions turning the fired vessel brown rather than black. Medieval cast lead alloy gaming piece, weight or token. it is circular with a flat front and back and angled sides so the front is larger than the back. On the front is a raised design of a crowned facing bust, similar to coin designs of the 14th and 15th century. In the centre of the otherwise plain back is a raised pellet. It is 16.8mm in diameter, 3.0mm thick including the design and weighs 4.74 grams, (0.166 or 1/6th of an ounce). It has a thick white patina with the original grey colour showing through in chips. Cast lead disc which has an incised design on the top, possibly a gaming piece or a weight. The sides slope away from the front slightly so the front is smaller than the back. The front is decorated with an incised design of two concentric ovals with a central dot; the three concentric rings are crossed by lines radiating from the centre to the edge. A small glass roundel of possible Roman date. The dark blue plano-convex roundel measures 11.5mm in maximum diameter by 5.3mm thick and weighs 1.1g. On the curving side there are three impressed parallel lines. It was perhaps used as a counter for a game.
