A Spanish Post Medieval copper alloy 'resellado' coin, originally of Philip III (1598-1621), Philip IV (1621-1665) or Philip IV (1621-1665) countermarked and revalued to eight maravedi.
The coin is hexagonal in shape with chips in two edges. Its obverse, has the letters xR with a crown above and then VIII within a circle indicating the value. The reverse has the stamped Philippus monogram.
These are often called 'cob' coins after the Spanish word for copper which is 'cobre': they were crudely made in Spain initially and later in the Americas for use in the Spanish colonies. The …
