A Post-Medieval copper alloy military button with a crowned LLV in plain lettering. This probably relates to the Loyal London Volunteers (AD 1803-1815). The hoop is missing from the reverse. The button measures 19.36mm in diameter, 1.58mm in thickness and weighs 2.88g. The threat of invasion by France in the late 18th and early 19th centuries led to the creation of many local volunteer or yeomanry units. As many of these existed for less than a year in some cases, the names of a great deal have gone unrecorded. Similar examples can be found at SF-BC6838 AND SUSS-8CF291.
