An incomplete lead badge or decorative plate, possibly dating to the late post-medieval or modern period. It may be a livery badge, or connected to the military (probably prior to AD 1855). The badge is in the form of a cushioned crown with decorative banding at the base and a pellet border surrounding two fleurs-de-lis. In the centre of the headband there is a square containing an incised saltire cross with a single pellet centre. Above this, a line of three pellets with a grooved border leads to a motif atop the crown, possibly a rose, but now very worn. The edges of the badge…

Post medieval cast copper alloy mount of probably 16th to 17th century date. The mount is in the form of a flowering plant with central stem growing from a section of branch or ground. The stem is topped by a five petalled flower with a large centre and narrow sepals projecting between the broader but still pointed petals. From each side of the stem, below the flower, projects a pointed oval leaf with prominent ribs. Below these leaves, again on each side of the stem, project small rounded buds or fruit, one clear, the other less well defined. The back of the badge is flat and p…

Cast copper alloy badge or possibly mount in the shape of a boar standing facing right. The badge is worn but has an elaborately curled tail, part of a bristly ridge down the back, a pointed ear, a squared off snout with tusks and two legs shown. The front is slightly convex and the back flat but rough. Traces of white metal on the back may be the remains of solder for attaching the pin. It is 28.1mm long, 16.9mm wide and 3.4mm thick; it weighs 3.79 grams. The style is very similar to Late Medieval badges e.g. LEIC-A6C834 , YORYM-1716A4, NARC-F57226 and Treasure Annual Report 2000, …

Late fifteenth/early sixteenth century silver-gilt bracteate stamped pilgrims badge. The badge is incomplete with only one corner and most of the centre surviving but was probably originally rectangular. The remaining corner has an irregular hole pierced through from the front, probably a sewing hole. The badge is decorated with an Annunciation scene showing Mary to the left kneeling at a prayer desk on which rests a book, to her right kneels the angel Gabriel with a lily growing from a pot between them. Behind the angel is an arched strip, probably a scroll inscribed A[V]E GRA. Th…
