Object type: STUD
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A cast copper alloy stud of probable post-medieval date. The broadly circular stud measures 18.6mm in diameter and is 2.4mm thick. The square-sectioned shank is 15mm long and the stud weighs 2.4g. The slightly domed head is moulded to represent a rose and the reverse is flat. A similar stud from Brailes, Warwickshire, has been recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database (see WAW-34C200). It has been suggested that the example from Brailes is a furniture stud in view of the square-sectioned shank. However the Crewkerne example's shank is somewhat narrower.
