Sub-circular lead alloy 'pan' weight of probably Medieval to early post-medieval date, c. 1390-1700 The weight has a slightly concave back and flat sides with a slightly irregular, in width and thickness, raised rim around the front. The front is stamped with three very large fleur de lis, almost filling the field. The weight is 53.3mm by 49.9mm and 7.9mm thick. It weighs 108g, 3.8 ounces. The weight was probably originally 4 ounces, a quarter of a pound in the Avoirdupois system, adoped after c. AD 1390 (Biggs 1992, 44). The marks are likely to be local verification marks. Such m…

One end of a gilded silver strap fitting with gold, garnet and blue glass inlays, dating to the first half of the seventh century AD. A Post-Medieval copper alloy snake shaped strap-fitting. The strap fitting is S-shaped in plan and sub-oval in cross section being wider than it is thick. Both sides of the fitting have moulded and incised decoration that give the impression of two snakes, the tips of the S being their heads, whose bodies terminate in fish like tails at the the S's centre which is marked by a raised flower. An incomplete post medieval lead alloy (pewter) spoon bowl that is probably mid to late 17th century in date. The bowl is broken across the outer edge and at the junction with the handle with an old break/ The bowl itself is a broad oval with its point of maximum diameter being offset closer to the handle. The knop, figurative terminal, and part of the stem from the end of a copper alloy 'apostle' spoon depicting Mary holding the infant Jesus, of probable late medieval or early post-medieval date (1450-1550). The bowl and lower stem / handle is lost. The circular sectioned remaining stem narrows slightly from the knop to break. It is a later repair, but how much later is unclear. The rectangular plate exhibits two rivet holes, arranged on the long axis, which retain the corroded remains of the iron rivets. Just below the second rivet is an incised horizontal groove. A post medieval copper alloy mount dating to the period c.AD1600-1700. The mount is asymmetrical, with a pointed trefoliate terminal at one end. Below this is a knop projecting from one side. There is no evidence of a similar missing lug on the opposite side. The mount expands in width from 5.99mm below the knop to 16.72mm. There is a soldered join at one point, visible only as a faint line on the outside but clearer on the inside as a strip of a browner shade.
