Object type: VESSEL

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A probable cast copper alloy tankard handle fragment of late Iron Age date. The oval slightly curving fragment measures 36.1mm by 30.2mm by 8.1mm and weighs 25.3g. It appears to be the central section from a tankard handle which was originally broadly similar to example h on plate 230 of Jope's 'Early Celtic Art in the British Isles'. This example, which is from Stoke Abbott, Dorset, has two trumpet-like terminals for attachment to a wooden vessel, each with an adjacent openwork loop which in turn adjoined an oval central section. Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Milton Keynes
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A probable cast copper alloy buckle of post-medieval date. The surviving part of the frame measures 67.3mm by 42mm by 6.2mm and weighs 23.9g. It is not clear whether the buckle would have been a single or double loop variety, and what the overall shape would have been (it was most likely assymetrical), but the surviving part is curvilinear with a circular element in the centre of the side. This has a projecting external knop and a notch for the pin on the inside. The front of the buckle is convex and the back is concave.
