A complete silver early medieval sceat, dating to AD 710-765, porcupine type. Obv. Quilled crescent of thin style, coiled right, triangular head enclosing pellet eye, pellet and annulet below Rev. Voided, stepped, cross within beaded border, with central pellet in annulet, vestigial chevrons in margin Diameter: 12.02mm, weight: 1.12g. Series E (420), stepped cross, BM type 52.

Early-Medieval silver mid-late Secondary Phase Series QIIA (Type 64) sceat dating to AD 725 to 745. Bird / walking beast design in the more angular style with trinquetra (trinity knot). Probably minted in East or Middle Anglian area. North (1994:66) no. 136, Plate 1 no.62. Abramson (2006:43) Q360. Traces of green corrosion are visible on the reverse. Analysis of one example showed they were only 50% silver (Grierson and Blackburn 1986:179-180).

Early Medieval silver sceat dating to the period AD 710 to 740. Series X (type 31 Woden head / crested monster). Barrett type Ap (Metcalf 1993:279). Probably minted at Ribe, Denmark. North (1994: 65) no 116. Areas of copper alloy corrosion on both faces suggest it is debased silver. Analysis of a similar coin, although lighter and perhaps of less good design, in the Ashmolean collection found it had a silver content of 63% (Metcalf 1993: plate 16 no.208).

An Early Medieval silver sceat, Series E, Metcalf Variety C-related / Metcalf and Op den Velde sub-variety h, c.AD 710-750. The coin belongs to the highly varied Secondary phase of Series E production, and this coin is most akin to Metcalf and Op den Velde nos. 2088-2092. The obverse depicts a quilled crescent with a triangular head. There are two pellets on the crescent above the triangular head. Between the head and the crescent is a saltire and below this on the edge of the flan is an annulet.

See HAMP-6A4044, EMC 2008.0174 and 2008.0175 for the same varient with three pellets below chin. bout 5% of the flan is missing due to a break down one side. The coin appears base silver with some copper corrosion but it is clear in the break that it is not silver plated on copper but the same composition all the way through.
