Two socketed axes (Cat. Nos. 1-2, below) were found together in the same metal-detector pit at approximate depths of 0.15-0.23m (6-9 inches) below the ground surface. A further socketed axe and a casting jet (Cat. Nos. 3 & 7, below) were also later recovered from the same metal detector pit, at approximate depths of 0.25-0.30m (10-12 inches). A complete forged copper alloy spiral finger ring of probable Iron Age to Roman date (c. 200BC-AD 410). The ring is of Guiraud Type 7 (Guiraud 1989, 195-6). The ring is made from a forged bar of copper alloy 4.3- 4.8mm diameter wrapped around to form a ring, completing two full turns. The section of the bar is circular. The internal diameter of the ring is variable with a maximum of 22.1mm. Core rejuvenation blade, most likely to be of Neolithic date (c. 4000-2500BC). Made of flint. Length = 79.0mm; width = 28.0mm; thickness – 15.0mm; weight = 25.3g. The blade is struck from a blade core with the intention to refresh the striking platform of the core to enable further blades to be removed from it. Blades from such a core could have been retouched and made into scrapers, knives, or other tools.

Description & identification The reported object is a decorative gold posy ring. The ring consists of a thin gold band, D-shaped in section, with a tightly set repeating pattern of tooled S-shaped indentations on the external surface, possibly for enamel, although none appears to have survived. Description & identification The reported object is a small silver annular brooch with integral pin (frame misshapen. The frame is decorated with continuous transverse incised bands or ridges on the front surface, some of which are inlaid with a darker material, possibly niello.
